When I travel to Tulum, one of the things I enjoy the most is having a coffee and a delicious breakfast or snack in one of its trendy coffee shops with a bohemian air. It’s a real treat!

As I know there are many great options to choose from and it can be difficult to find the best Tulum cafes or the best coffee shops, I’ve compiled a list of the very best spots to grab your caffeine fix or hot chocolate in Tulum (and all of the Riviera Maya).

While I have talked about some of the best breakfasts in Tulum before, I want to make sure I stress the best places to have a great coffee while enjoying some delicious treats like avocado toast or smoothie bowls.

First up on my list of best coffee shops in Tulum is BOTANICA Garden Café, a stunning coffee shop with a chilled atmosphere, daily live music, mouth-watering food, and fantastic staff. 

You’ll find it here right in the middle of Tulum Centro, so it’s the perfect spot to spend a dreamy afternoon sipping delicious coffee. Plus, it has a Coworking Space perfect for digital nomads.

I have to confess that this is one of my favorite Tulum cafes. I loved working there! 

This Tulum café is known for its fresh, organic, and locally-sourced ingredients that are used to create delicious food and drinks.

The café’s garden setting is a true oasis, with lush plants and greenery, a wooden deck, and outdoor seating areas where guests can relax and enjoy their coffee and food in a peaceful atmosphere. 

The interior of the café is just as charming, with a rustic and bohemian feel, featuring wooden tables, colorful cushions, and plants throughout.

Other popular dishes include the Huevos Rancheros with chorizo, turmeric potatoes, tartines, or a tasty starry egg bagel. As you can see, this place is perfect for a delicious brunch in Tulum!

2. Matcha Mama

Matcha Mama is a must-visit coffee shop in Tulum for all the matcha lovers out there.

This small yet vibrant café is located in the heart of Tulum Beach, making it a perfect spot for those looking for a refreshing break from the hot and humid weather.

The café is known for its extensive menu of matcha-based drinks, smoothies, and bowls, all made with fresh and natural ingredients.

Upon entering Matcha Mama, you’ll be greeted with a colorful and lively atmosphere, with walls covered in colorful murals and Instagram-worthy quotes. The café has both indoor and outdoor seating options, allowing customers to enjoy their matcha creations in a relaxing and serene environment.

There are 3 locations in Tulum where you can enjoy the delights of Matcha Mama. The original is in the Hotel Zone on Tulum beach road and is also one of the best Tulum Instagram Spots

I recommend you to visit this spot, which is the nicest, and here you can enjoy your coffee or smoothie bowl in one of their famous swings. 

Tip: It fills up fast, so it’s best to go early in the morning to avoid the crowds and take advantage of the outdoor seating for the ultimate Tulum beach experience.

There is a second location in Downtown Tulum and another one in Aldea Zama.

One of the most popular drinks at Matcha Mama is the Classic Matcha Latte, made with high-quality matcha powder and your choice of milk. Another fan-favorite is the Matcha Mama Bowl, a refreshing and healthy bowl made with acai, banana, and, of course, matcha.

For amazing coffee in Tulum, I next have to mention the incredible bookstore café that is Cara Feliz. An ideal spot to soak up the ambiance, get some work done, or wind down with one of their many books as you enjoy that perfect cup of coffee. 

Cara Feliz is a charming coffee shop located in the heart of Tulum’s downtown area, serving up delicious coffee, tea, and baked goods. 

The café has a relaxed and cozy atmosphere, making it a great place to catch up with friends or enjoy some alone time. The café is especially popular with working travelers and it’s one of the best cafes for digital nomads in Tulum.

The main attraction of Cara Feliz is undoubtedly its coffee, which is made from high-quality beans sourced from the Chiapas region of Mexico. The coffee is roasted in-house, giving it a fresh and rich flavor that will satisfy even the most discerning coffee drinkers.

If you’re looking for vegan food in Tulum, you’ve got to visit the unique café and sugar-free vegan restaurant Raw Love to get your health kick. 

With two locations (one in the town and a second at the beach), no matter where you are in Tulum, fantastic coffee and food will be easy to find.

With magical gardens to relax in, revitalize yourself with great coffee and healthy, mouth-watering food made with fresh, organic ingredients including some of the best tacos in Tulum.

Serving freshly-brewed coffee prepared with any technique imaginable, the baristas at Brew Tulum are true coffee connoisseurs. Not only that but they offer an incredible food menu and even coffee-tasting and coffee-roasting classes

From delicious coffees to delectable pastries, and açai bowls to delicious Mexican breakfasts (love the Mexican potatoes), this chic coffee shop has it all.

Situated right on Tulum’s main road, close to one of the famous Tulum bars (Batey Mojito), there’s nothing standing between you and that fantastic cup of coffee!

The café has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with simple yet stylish decor featuring natural elements and local art pieces. Its outdoor seating area is surrounded by lush greenery, creating a tranquil oasis in the bustling town.

One of the main reasons to visit Cafeína Tulum is their commitment to sourcing the best coffee beans from Mexico and Central America and brewing them to perfection.

You’ll find people flocking to Ki’bok in Tulum and if you visit, you’ll understand why. 

This famous hotspot is one of the best coffee shops in Tulum and is both a café and bar, so why not grab your coffee and brekkie in the morning, and then stop by in the evening to relax with a drink?

Ki’bok coffee is the best of both worlds and it couldn’t be easier to find on Tulum’s main street.

The coffee at Ki’bok is top-notch, made with locally sourced beans that are roasted in-house to bring out their unique flavors. The menu includes all the classic coffee drinks, from cappuccinos to Americanos, as well as some unique creations like the Mayan Mocha, made with cinnamon and chili.

Next up on my list of favorite Tulum cafés is Café Hunab Ku. This place is said by many to have THE best coffee in Tulum, as well as serving incredible Mexican food as well as international options such as pancakes, smoothies, juices, and sandwiches. 

Hunab Ku is a must-visit if you’re traveling to Tulum, and can be found downtown.

The café’s name comes from an ancient Mayan term that means “one sun, one people,” which reflects their philosophy of community and inclusivity. Hunab Ku is a great place for anyone looking for a laid-back atmosphere and a delicious cup of coffee.

This family-owned café offers a variety of specialty coffee drinks made with locally sourced and organic beans. They also have an extensive tea menu and refreshing smoothies.

Situated in Tulum Pueblo but not on the main strip you can find this hidden treasure in colonia Tumbenka, and I can guarantee it will be worth it!

With its laid-back ambiance and friendly staff, Aroma Cafe Tulum offers visitors an inviting atmosphere to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee or a light meal. Besides, it has one of the best WIFI in Tulum, so it’s perfect for work!

This Tulum coffee shop serves an array of freshly brewed coffee options, from traditional espresso drinks to cold brews and lattes. The menu also includes a variety of teas, smoothies, and juices for those who prefer non-caffeinated drinks.

This awesome café is a must-visit for delicious coffee and authentic Mexican breakfasts in Tulum and is one of the best Tulum restaurants. 

Creamy cappuccinos, frappes (the chocolate one is one of the best I have ever tasted!), and pastries are all fresh and full of flavor with incredible surroundings and service to top it all off. 

Café Don Tomás is located in Tulum Centro, just a few blocks away from the main avenue (Avenida Tulum). It is a cozy spot that offers a relaxing atmosphere and delicious coffee, making it the perfect place to stop and recharge during a day of exploring.

Coati Café keeps it simple but with incredible style! This trendy and aesthetic coffee shop is perfect for enjoying a delicious cold brew, a smoked salmon bagel, or the crunchy avocado toast that we know you’ve been craving. 

Located on Tulum’s hotel beach strip, close to the famous restaurant Gitano, spend some time drinking your coffee while relaxing in paradise.

The shop features a minimalistic design, with lots of natural light and greenery. It’s an excellent spot to take a break from the heat, sip on some delicious coffee, and enjoy a light meal or snack.

Searching high and low for the best breakfast in Tulum? Luckily, I have the answer and that’s Del Cielo (literally from heaven) here to solve your problem! 

This heavenly brekkie spot has something for everyone with exquisite smoked salmon tartine, Mexican breakfasts, pancakes, eggs, smoothies, and breakfast bowls

And the best news? It’s all healthy food with a variety of gluten-free and vegan options. This is one of my favorite places for brunch in Tulum.

This charming coffee shop located in Tulum Centro, close to Taqueria Honorio, is sure to delight any coffee enthusiast. With its cozy and inviting atmosphere, excellent coffee (and hot chocolate), and good food, it is a must-visit spot for anyone in the area.

One of the main reasons to visit Del Cielo is their commitment to quality. They use only the finest beans, carefully roasted to bring out their unique flavors and aromas.

This dedication to the craft is evident in every cup they serve, and their skilled baristas take the time to make each one perfectly.

In addition to its exceptional coffee, Del Cielo also offers a tempting array of baked goods and delicious sweet and salty breakfasts. I had the avocado toast with a poached egg on top and I can tell you it was delicious!

It is easy to find and has plenty of seating, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a coffee break.

Tip: Arrive early in the morning to beat the crowds (I had to wait for 15 minutes to have a seat). Del Cielo is a popular place, and it can get busy quickly, especially during peak hours.

14. Babel Café

If you are looking for a cozy Tulum coffee shop with a laid-back vibe and a relaxing atmosphere, then Babel Café is worth a visit. Located in the heart of the town, this cute cafe offers a unique blend of Middle Eastern and Mexican cuisine that’s both delicious and healthy.

Babel Café not only has amazing coffee and food but it’s one of the best cafés to work in Tulum, offering some of the best wifi in Tulum (which can be hard to come by in this small town) which gives it a special place in the hearts of digital nomads. 

Not only this but it’s beautifully decorated and the walls are covered in colorful Tulum art.

If you’re on the hunt for a cozy spot to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee in Tulum, look no further than Sin Etiqueta. This small cafe is a hidden gem, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Tulum’s main streets.

Since the first time I went there, it became one of my favorite places to have breakfast in Tulum. Their Nutella and red fruit pancakes are amazing!

Sin Etiqueta is a great place to visit for travelers and digital nomads seeking a peaceful atmosphere to get work done or relax.

This Tulum bakery offers a variety of fresh-baked pastries, including croissants, muffins, cookies, and cakes all of which are made in-house daily. I recommend you try the black croissant filled with creamy natural goat cheese and guacamole.

Tip: Don’t be afraid to ask the baristas for their recommendations – they are knowledgeable and always happy to help.
